Position: Elementary Class Teacher

Position
description: The
Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students
have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional,
physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for
organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students
achieving academic success in accordance with National Curriculum and Comprehensive
Education & Grooming Standards of The Leaders International School &
College.
Primary Responsibilities: The primary purpose is to create a flexible elementary grade program and a class
environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective
rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and
knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education
in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with
parents, management and other staff members. Other primary responsibilities include
but are not limited to:
1. Implements instructional activities that
contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful
learning experiences.
2. Identifies, selects, and modifies
instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying
backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
3. Assists in assessing changing curricular
needs and offers plans for improvement.
4. Maintains effective and efficient record
keeping procedures.
5. Provides a positive environment in which
students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
6. Communicates effectively, both orally and in
writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
7. Collaborates with peers to enhance the
instructional environment.
8. Models professional and ethical standards
when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
9. Models spiritual maturity in leading students
towards Allah Almighty through His various Signs and Creations for their
spiritual growth.
10. Ensures that student growth and achievement
is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program
classification.
11. Establishes and maintains cooperative working
relationships with students, parents, and management of the School.
12. Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her
course and school-wide student performance goals.
13. Demonstrates gains in student performance.
14. Participates in training and presentations
about In-House teaching.
15. Meets professional obligations through
efficient work habits such as: punctuality, meeting deadlines, honoring
schedules, coordinating.
16. Performs other duties and responsibilities as
assigned by their Section Head and/or Vice Principal/Principal. All work
responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets
established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result
of organizational planning.
17. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics,
science, art, health,
physical education, and acceptable music to students in a
classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Management, and
other appropriate learning activities.
18. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
19. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides
individualized and
small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the
needs of each student.
20. Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group
discussion, lecture,
discovery, observation, research, etc.
21. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best
utilize the available
time for instruction.
22. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to
achieve a
functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
23. Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate
records, and
prepares progress reports.
24. Communicates with parents through conferences, periodic written
reports and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school
program.
25. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional
staff members in
assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and
learning problems.
26. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional
and attractive
displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
27. Maintains professional competence through in-service education
activities
provided by professional growth activities.
28. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to
develop the
method by which the teacher will be evaluated in performance with
guidelines.
29. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains
required
inventory records.
30. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the
school day.
31. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with The LISC
testing program.
32. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
33. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student
activities.
Education,
Certifications, and Work Related Experience:
- Bachelor’s
Degree or higher (Masters Degree preferred). Must be qualified in the
Montessori Method of educating the toddlers.
- Teaching and
online experience valued.
- A willingness to
follow our cherished Deen in letter & spirit in life and instructs
others in the same faith.
Knowledge-base
Requirements:
- Certified
in relevant subject area.
- Knowledge
of students in a distance-learning environment.
- Operational
knowledge of the Internet and web-related technologies.
- Must
be a Muslim by faith & practice.
Technical Competencies
and Skills:
- Possesses
strong oral, reading and written communication skills.
- Works
independently with little direct supervision.
- Works
as part of a team.
- Accepts
responsibility and is self-motivated.
- Demonstrates
strong work ethics to achieve academic and grooming goals.
- Displays
effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Utilizes
all required and recommended computer applications.
Working
Conditions:
- Physical
Ability: Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or
workstation.
- Sensory
Requirements:
Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks
require oral communications ability.
- The LISC wishes to give
reasonably free hand to teachers for planning and implementing the
teaching strategies/methods most suitable to the needs of the individual
students or group of similar students. The teacher must be able to exploit
