At Takshila the belief is that each child has the potential to learn at the same pace erasing the myth that different children have different learning capabilities. The difference arises not because of capabilities but the way learning is imparted. Classes at Takshila use; technology, projects, games, learning centers and various other means as a medium of creating knowledge in the classrooms. The methodology to teaching and learning is by discovery and exploration thus making textbooks the last resort. Classes at Takshila are not replicas of each other but are customized by the teachers’ as per the requirement of the students. Takshila Learning System is a dynamic curriculum developed after lot of research and experiment by a dedicated team of committed professionals from different walks of life including academicians, psychologists and researchers. Takshila Learning System is dynamic system with scope to constantly evolve to ensure overall development of the individual.

The Pedagogy

Our pedagogy is based on the following principles:

Teaching at Takshila is aimed at enhancing children’s natural desire and strategies to learn. Knowledge is distinguished from information and teaching is seen as a professional activity and is not a coaching for memorization and transmission of facts. Activity is the heart of child’s attempts to make sense of the world around. Therefore every resource is deployed to enable children to express themselves, handle objects, explore their natural and social milieu, and to grow up healthy.
Takshila Schools provides a safe environment for every child for his or her mental, emotional and physical development. Teachers are trained to be sensitive. This relationship is the pivot for the child’s motivation and disposition towards school and learning. Thoughtful planning has gone into designing of the classrooms, activity and play area and other facilities to aid pedagogy and nurture natural learning.

Takshila Schools –Infrastructure-beyond just brick & mortar

Learning does not happen only in classrooms. One of the reasons why children do not like going to school is because they do not find the physical environment interesting. Takshila believes in the infinite capacity of the young minds to absorb knowledge from the surroundings they live in. With this in mind all Takshila Schools are being designed as buildings with learning aids-a concept developed by leading school architects, designers, educationist and psychologists. Known as BaLa (Building as learning Aids), this is a holistic thought process which envisions the total physical environment of the school as a teaching tool. Takshila has been conceived as a physical environment connected to the way children learn. Thus, the school building and the campus itself serve as an open classroom with hands on activities to engage children in a variety of learning experience. Spatial Designs, simple toys based on theories of physics and chemistry, arithmetical and geometrical puzzles embedded in walls and walk-ways, and mapped play areas help children understand and grasp concepts with the aid of teachers. Parents are encouraged to participate in this learning process

Technology

A well equipped smart class has been set up to improve teacher effectiveness & productivity by bringing abstract & difficult curriculum concepts to life. This makes learning an enjoyable experience and improves academic performance of students.

Learning Centers

Learning centers have been set up in each classroom. There are centers where a child has a sense of heightened alertness & learning happens effortlessly. Learning centers respond to a child’s emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs. There is a wise and thoughtful balance between teacher-directed work and child-chosen and child-directed activities. These centers not only promote active learning but also promote creativity, healthy social development, independence and develop motivation.

Sunken Area

The sunken area is the nerve center of Takshila. It has been strategically built in the center of the school and various activities like assembly, projects, games, yoga etc are held here

Performing Arts Studio

Art as a subject is recommended at all stages covering all four major spheres, i.e. music, dance, visual arts and theatre. It promotes aesthetic and personal awareness and ability to express oneself in different forms. To achieve this objective we have

Health & Fitness

A healthy body is the home of a healthy mind. Takshila School will leave no stone unturned to ensure that students keep fit. We have developed a rich curriculum towards this goal. Takshila School has been conceived as a physical environment connected to the way children learn. Thus, the school building and the campus itself serve as an open classroom with hands-on activities.

Takshila and Community

Takshila envisages itself as a community centric hub contributing its resources towards the betterment of the society. Takshila schools play diverse roles throughout the working day. Mornings are devoted to the pursuit of teaching and learning for its students. Afternoons are reserved for in house teacher’s training and continuous improvement. Evenings are the times when Takshila’s resources are offered for constructive use to the community. Takshila encourages people to use its computer facilities and library for re-skilling themselves. The open air auditorium comes alive with workshops for theater, music and dance. Takshila School wants to play a proactive role in nurturing and protecting the environment. To achieve this Takshila School is an environment friendly space and conducts regular workshops and seminars for involving local. Takshila Schools are operational at Bhubaneshwar, Ahmednagar, Gaya, Hoshiarpur and Sangli. New centres for 2011-12 session will be starting from Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Satara, Muzzafarpur, Barnala, and Begusarai.
