By Baqir Sajjad Syed
ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan's top security officials on Wednesday made an unannounced trip to Islamabad for talks with the Pakistani leadership on security cooperation amid the highly volatile security situation in their country. Foreign Secretary Terminate Juana will meanwhile, lead a delegation to Kabul on Saturday (Feb 3) for bilateral talks. The visit by Afghan interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak and head of spy agency National Directorate of Security Masoom Stanekzai was announced by the Foreign Office on Twitter after the arrival of the high-level delegation. They met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other civilian and military leaders. Afghan government had requested that a high level delegation comprising Interior Minister and NDS chief would like to visit Pakistan Delegation is here and will have talks today FO spokesman Dr. Muhammad Faisal tweeted. The overall security situation in Afghanistan is said to be highly volatile with conflict between  the government and the Taliban continuing throughout most of the country. Three major attacks in Kabul over the past 10 days have brought additional focus on the worsening security situation there Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of not acting against terrorist sanctuaries on its soil a charge strongly denied by Islamabad. Bilateral mistrust has prevented the neighbors form improving their cooperation. The high ranking security delegation's visit follows a trip by Us Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan to Kabul a day earlier in which he had prodded the Afghan leadership to engage with Pakistani leaders.
We will continue our dialogue with Pakistan. We also encourage the government of Afghanistan to continue its bilateral discussions with Pakistan. Pakistan needs to be part of the solution. Mr. Sullivan had told reporters in Kabul after talks with President Ghani and Chief executive Abdullah, according to VoA. Afghan envoy Dr Omar Zakilwal, howefer. says the visit took place in resp[ose to a message by Prime Minister Abbasi over the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul. Following recent horrific terrorist attacks in kabul Pm Abbasi conveyed a message to president Ghani to which it was responded to by high powered personal delegation by the president to meet the PM today he said. The visiting delegation had come with a personal message from President Ghani. The FO spokesman said the agenda was discussion on prospects of cooperation between the two countries. The talks mostly took place at the Prime Minister House. Neither side issued a statement on the discussions. Dr Faisal Says the visit of Foreign Secretary Janjua is not linked to the security delegation's  trip and had been scheduled long before. The foreign Office had a day earlier disclosed that 27 Haqqani network and Taliban fighters were handed over to Afghanistan in November last year. Ambassador Zakhilwal expressed his surprise over the news. This certainly is news to me It would be huge step forward in our important bilateral relations if this indeed happens, he tweeted in response to the publication of the reports about handover of the fighters.

Trump calls for bipartisan compromises

Trump calls for bipartisan compromises
US President Donald Trump urges lawmakers to work towards bipartisan compromises, but pushes a hard line on immigration, insisting on a border wall and other concessions from Democrats as part of any deal to protect the children of illegal immigrants. Mr. Trump's in his first State of the Union speech, ave no ground on the issue of whether to shield immigrants known as dreamers from deportation. Trump links deal on "dreamers" to tough immigration law. Washington US President Donald Trump urged law makers on Tuesday to work towards bipartisan compromises, but pursued a hard line on immigration, insisting on a border wall and other concessions from Democrats as part of any deal to protect the children of illegal immigrants. Trump, in his first State of the union speech, gave no ground on the contentious issue of whether to shield young immigrants known as "Dreamers" from deportation. Aiming to keep conservative supporters happy as he looks to November congressional elections, Trump stood by a set of principles opposed by Democrats, including the border wall with Mexico and new restrictions on how many family members that legal immigrants can bring into the United States. Tonight, i call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground, and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people we were elected to serve, Trump said in his address. Trump used the hour and 20 minute speech, given annually by presidents to congress, to try to overcome doubts about his presidency at a time when he is battling a probe into his campaign's alleged ties with Russia and suffering low job approval ratings. Trumps made no mention of the federal probe into his campaign's alleged tries with Russia and suffering low job approval ratings. Trump made no mention of the federal probe into whether his campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 presidential election, a controversy that is dogging his presidency. But his sober, measured approach was welcomed by the public. But there was little sign of unity inside the House of Representatives chamber where Trumps spoke. Republican lawmakers cheered wildly at the president's applause lines. Democrats often sat in their seats silently and many booed when he laid out his immigration proposals.
Denounces North Korean leadership!
Turing to foreign policy late in the speech, Trump denounced the "depraved character" of North Korea's leadership and said Pyongyang's "reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles could very soon threaten our homeland" we are waging a campaign of maximum pressure to prevent that from happening, he said. In a surprise moment, he singled out a North Korea defector in the crowd, Ji Seong-ho, as an example of the what he called the reclusive country's brutal nature. Trump also said he had signed an order to keep open the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for foreign terrorism suspects. Former Democratic President Barack Obama had vowed to close the prison, which has been condemned by human rights groups, but was unable to shut it down completely. Whether Trump would follow through on his appeal for bipartisan harmony was far from clear. Trumps past attempts at a unifying message have been undermined by his later rancorous tweets and divisive statements that angered Democrats and frequently annoyed lawmakers in his own Republican Party. The unity plea will first be put to the test in his drive for a compromise on protecting 1.8 million Dreamers people brought illegally to the country as children who face a March 5 deadline on whether they can begin to be deported. Republicans welcomed Trump's immigration proposals, with US Senator James Lank ford of Oklahoma saying Trump tried to trike a middle ground- Reuters
